ESGi xxx, 13TH-17TH JULY 2026
Welcome to the xxxst European Study Group with Industry, which will take place at the University of Beira Interior in Covilhã, Portugal, during the summer of 2026.
The European Study Groups with Industry (ESGI) was established in Oxford in 1968, initially named the Oxford Study Groups with Industry. Study Groups are intense week-long, collaborative workshops focused on problem-solving, offering an interesting opportunity for interaction among mathematicians, scientists, and industrial professionals.
A restricted quantity of challenges put forth by companies will be chosen by the scientific committee for resolution during ESGIxxx. On the inaugural day of this event, academic participants will assign themselves to a working group, each of which will collaborate with an industrial partner on a specific challenge throughout the week. On the final day, each group will present the primary findings and propose routes for future research.
A few weeks after the study group, a technical report detailing the contributions of each group will be dispatched to the respective industrial partner. It will encompass the principal outcomes attained on the ESGI, along with additional recommendations for future advancements.
Additional information regarding the European Study Groups with Industry is available at the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry. The community represented by the Portuguese Network of Mathematics for Industry and Innovation (PT-MATHS-IN) has a longstanding tradition of organizing ESGI. A compilation of the prior Portuguese ESGI can be accessed on the PT-MATHS-IN website.
